I grew up in the Washington, DC area, where I completed my doctoral education at the University of Maryland. During my training, I worked in a variety of clinical settings, including the University of Maryland and Georgetown University counseling centers, and the Baltimore VA Hospital. My internship year of training was spent in New York City, where I worked in several outpatient clinics at Gouverneur Hospital on the Lower East Side, and also did an inpatient rotation at Bellevue Hospital.
After receiving my doctoral degree, I worked for two years as a Staff Psychologist at the James Madison University (JMU) counseling center in Harrisonburg, VA. In conjunction with my position at JMU, I saw individual clients, led groups, supervised trainees, and taught undergraduate and graduate courses in psychology. Teaching is another area of interest for me. I have taught psychology courses at Drexel University, JMU, Lafayette College, and the University of Maryland.
Upon moving to Philadelphia, I opened my solo private practice, which has been in operation for 8 years. I am a licensed psychologist in Pennsylvania. I am also certified as an Approved Consultant in clinical hypnosis by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), "recognizing individuals who have obtained advanced training in clinical hypnosis and who have extensive experience in utilizing hypnosis within their professional practices. Approved Consultants are qualified to provide individualized training and consultation for those seeking certification in clinical hypnosis from ASCH."
Additionally, I am the 2012 recipient of the Early Career Achievement Award from ASCH. "This annual award recognizes an ASCH member, who, at the beginning of their career and not later than ten years after completing their degree, has shown promise of significant career contributions to the field of clinical hypnosis and to ASCH through their early achievements including teaching, research, publication, and professional services."
Professional writing is another area of interest of mine. I am the co-author of a book on attachment theory and group psychotherapy, entitled Attachment in Group Psychotherapy, and published by the American Psychological Association in 2013. I also write in journals and books on subjects such as the anxiety disorders, attachment theory, hypnosis, the psychotherapy relationship, and trauma.
Quotations come from descriptions of Approved Consultant certification and Early Career Achievement Award, as posted on the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis website.
