Couples and Marriage Counseling

Couples Counseling / Relationship Counseling / Pre-Marital Counseling / Marriage Counseling
Couples seek counseling for a variety of reasons.  I believe in tailoring the counseling to the unique personalities, needs, and situations of each couple that I work with.  Through direct questioning and non-verbal observation, I strive to understand the couple's relationship patterns, strengths and opportunities for growth.  My style as a therapist very much depends on both the couple and situation.  Often I am encouraging and supportive; at other moments, however, I can be direct and challenging.  At times I may choose to be silent in order to allow the couple to naturally interact during our session.  The goals of the counseling can include: developing improved self and relationship awareness, learning how to better hear your partnerís underlying needs, and enhancing your ability to manage your emotions in the heat of the moment.  The process of building these important skills makes couples counseling a valuable experience regardless of the outcome.

Dr. Spiegel's new book!

"This is the first well-informed and scientifically rigorous extension of attachment theory to group psychotherapy. It is a wonderfully constructed and imaginative text that is sure to become a clinically invaluable tool for all those who work with groups and an excellent introduction to students learning the art of psychological treatment."

— Peter Fonagy, PhD, FBA, Chief Executive of the Anna FreudCentre, and Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis, University College London, England
